A festival held to honor Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the warrior who spent his childhood training at Mount Kurama.
Known as Ushiwakamaru in his youth and later called Shanao while at Mount Kurama, Yoshitsune spent about ten years there starting from the age of seven.
It is believed that his spirit returned to Mount Kurama, where he became Shanao-son and is now enshrined in the Yoshitsune Hall at the Okunoin Temple as a guardian deity alongside Gohō Maō-son.
The festival begins with a Buddhist memorial service at 11:00, followed by martial arts offerings, which vary depending on the year.
